3 Things to Do in 48 Hours

Visit the beautiful village of Grasmere, enjoy world famous gingerbread and visit the home of William Wordsworth.

Grasmere village is just eight miles from Craig Manor. When in Grasmere, stop and treat yourself to Sarah Nelson’s world famous Gingerbread and visit Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth. Take a stroll around Grasmere Lake and soak up the inspiration for many of William Wordsworth’s classics.

Follow the footpath to the top of Orrest Head

One of the Lake District’s shortest and easiest walks. It was this very walk that inspired Wainwright’s love of the Lake District.

This walk starts opposite Windermere Information Centre and train station. Whilst there are a few challenging steps, the reward is worth it with a clear view of the full length of Windermere (weather permitting). The walk takes about 25 minutes from Windermere to the top.

Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside

Just minutes from Craig Manor Hotel is Bowness Bay. From here, you can pick up a Lake Cruise to Ambleside. Ambleside is a bustling town with many shops and cafes, and is perfect to spend a few hours before returning back. Timetables are available in reception or by clicking on this link.
