FAQs
Is there parking?
The Ferry Nab pay and display car park is a short walk away from the Bowness retail and hire store. There are several pay and display car parks located close to the Ambleside hire shack.
Are toilets available?
Public toilets can be found at Ferry Nab car park.
Can I take my dog?
You can take your dog, but precaution needs to be taken. Only one dog per boat is recommended and they suggest using buoyancy aids such as doggie life jackets (these can be purchased on-site).
Kayaks rather than canoes are a better option for dogs and leads should not be attached to the boat – this is to protect both you and your dog’s safety if the boat capsizes.
If you have experience SUPing, then dogs are welcome to take part in paddleboarding. However, this is not recommended for beginners.
How do you book?
Book online in advance to guarantee your booking. Alternatively, you can turn up on the day, but availability is not guaranteed.
Are there any age limits?
Anybody under 18 needs to be accompanied by an over 18 at all times whilst using the watercraft.
There is no minimum age for kayaks however the minimum age for paddleboards is 12 years.
What’s included?
With each hire you will be given:
- Boat, paddle, backrest and buoyancy aid
- Brief instruction
- Dry bag (if requested)
- Wetsuits (hired for £7 with boat hire)
Take clothes with you that you don’t mind getting wet. Suede and denim clothing is not allowed to be worn whilst out on the water.
