CHRISTMAS EVE IN BOWNESS

After checking in to your very own country Manor, it’s time for the festivities to begin! Wrap up warm and explore the quaint, frosty streets of Bowness and Windermere – home to an eclectic selection of independent shops and seasonal artisan treats. Think spiced mulled wine, craft ales, cheerful carols, and delicious winter nibbles. For some of the best foodie treats on offer, why not head to Folk in Bowness or Homeground in Windermere?

As the sun starts to set and you’ve wandered under the Christmas lights, it’s time to head back to The Manor for a relaxing night of food and drink. Wake up to snow topped peaks beyond the frosty shores of Windermere (and see if Father Christmas has left you a treat)! Enjoy a lazy morning with a coffee in bed before heading downstairs to enjoy a delicious full Cumbrian breakfast, the perfect way to start the day…

No Christmas morning in The Lakes would be complete without a festive stroll. Pop on your favourite Fair Isle jumper and head out explore the beautiful sights of South Lakeland. See the tranquil waters of Lake Windermere or wander up one of the nearby Wainwright Fells. Orrest Head is a stunning local walk is well worth the short climb for the wintery panoramic views over Windermere and beyond, whilst Millerground offers stunning lakeside strolls with spectacular views over the water to The Langdales and beyond.

After seeing the very best of what’s on your doorstep, it’s time to celebrate with an indulgent Christmas Day feast at The Manor, showcasing a mouth-watering selection of treats served fresh from The Kitchen. Relax, raise a glass, and soak up the magical moment with your loved ones whilst we take care of the cooking. Enjoy a cosy evening by the fire and perhaps a glass of fizz or two before retiring for the night or perhaps take a frosty moonlight stroll and see the stars twinkling over the frosty peaks.

 

BOXING DAY | FOR THE WANDERERS

Following a busy, memorable day of festivities, it’s time to pack up ready to check out – but before you head home, there’s still plenty to see and do to finish your Christmas retreat in style. Have a true Lake District experience and see the crystal-clear waters of Windermere on a relaxing lake cruise? Choose from a variety of routes with the option to hop off and explore. Discover the west shore of the lake, gorgeous green spaces at Fell Foot, head north to Waterhead for a tempting blueberry scone or over to Brockhole, where you can explore the historic house and grounds. For garden lovers, Hayes Garden World in Ambleside is real treat. A true winter wonderland throughout December, with a huge selection of gifts available (perfect for a Boxing Day bargain)! If a festive road trip is your thing, then you’re truly spoilt for choice here in The Lake District! Head north to the lively town of Keswick, where you can wander the charming selection of independent shops, delis and traditional Lakeland pubs. The road from The Manor to the northern Lake District winds it’s way through some of the counties most stunning forests, majestic peaks and icy clear rivers, with plenty of spots to stop off and soak up the view. Whilst in the area, the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path is simply a must. Stretch your legs on this truly beautiful trail, well surfaced with smooth tarmac over the whole 5km with very low gradients – making it the perfect choice for access for all.

Closer to home, head south along the shores of Lake Winderemere. This winding road will lead you towards Newby Bridge and the some of the county’s pretty southern fells. Take the left turn by Fell Foot Park and head up to the Forestry Commission car park before taking the 45 minute trail up to the top of Gummers How. This rewarding short walk features breathtaking views of the surrounding fells from the summit over Lake Windermere including: Dollywagon Pike, Fairfield, Great Rigg, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, Scandale Pass, Red Screes and the Kirkstone Pass. This is a great scenic option for those then looking to head home towards the M6 southbound.
